Warm Flat Roof Installation in Thorpe

Warm Flat Roof Installation in Thorpe

The fantastic weather we’ve been experiencing over the past few weeks has allowed us to make great progress with a number of projects. One of those was a flat roof replacement for a customer in Thorpe, where we installed a high-performance warm roof system.

The existing flat roof had reached the end of its lifespan and needed a modern replacement that would provide dependable waterproofing while meeting current thermal-performance standards.

As part of the replacement, we installed 150mm rigid insulation beneath a new Danosa built-up bituminous roofing system, along with white uPVC fascia boards and black uPVC guttering. The work was also completed with an NFRC Competent Roofer Building Regulations Certificate of Compliance.

Why Was a Warm Roof System Used?

A warm roof system places the insulation above the main roof structure, helping to maintain the roof deck at a consistent temperature while creating a continuous insulating layer. For the homeowner, this means better thermal performance, reduced heat loss and a lower risk of condensation developing within the roof structure.

150mm Rigid Insulation for Better Thermal Performance

150mm of rigid insulation was included in the new roof build-up. This thickness was selected to ensure that the completed roof was compliant with current Building Regulations.

The insulation will deliver strong thermal performance without requiring an unnecessarily deep roof construction. It allows the boards to be fitted closely together, creating a consistent insulating layer across the roof.

Installing insulation correctly is especially important when replacing a flat roof. Doing so allows the building’s performance to be improved while work to renew the overall roof structure is carried out.

High-Performance Danosa Bituminous Roofing System

The waterproof covering was created using a Danosa built-up bituminous roofing system.

Built-up systems use multiple compatible layers to form a strong and dependable waterproof barrier. This provides greater protection than relying on a single exposed layer and helps the roof withstand changing temperatures and prolonged exposure to the British weather.

The Danosa system was chosen because it offers:

  • Reliable long-term waterproofing
  • Strong resistance to everyday weather exposure
  • A durable, multi-layered roof covering
  • Proven performance for flat roof applications

Careful installation is essential with any built-up roofing system. Each layer must be correctly prepared, bonded and finished to create a continuous protective surface.

A 25-Year Workmanship and Materials Guarantee

The completed flat roof is supported by a 25-year guarantee covering both the materials used and our workmanship.

A guarantee of this kind provides reassurance that the roof has been installed using an approved system and in accordance with the required installation standards. It also gives the homeowner a clear point of protection should a covered problem develop.

By covering both workmanship and materials, the guarantee provides more comprehensive protection than a product warranty alone.

Building Regulations Certificate

Following completion, the homeowner received an NFRC Competent Roofer Building Regulations Certificate of Compliance.

This provides formal confirmation that the roofing work has been completed in line with the applicable Building Regulations. It gives the property owner clear documentation for their records, which may also be useful if they decide to sell the property in the future.

The certificate complements the 25-year guarantee and provides further confidence in the standard and compliance of the completed installation.

New uPVC Fascia Boards and Guttering

As part of the project, we also replaced the existing roofline with new white uPVC fascia boards and black uPVC guttering.

The fascia boards provide a neat and durable finish around the edge of the roof while supporting the new guttering. uPVC requires minimal maintenance and will not need the regular painting associated with traditional roofline products.

The black guttering creates a smart contrast with the white fascia boards and directs rainwater safely away from the roof and property.

Replacing the roofline at the same time as the flat roof allowed us to create a clean, coordinated finish and ensure the new roofing and drainage systems worked effectively together.

The Finished Flat Roof

The completed project has provided the property with a well-insulated and fully weatherproof flat roof system.

The combination of rigid insulation, a Danosa built-up bituminous covering and new uPVC roofline products delivers practical improvements as well as a fresh appearance. Most importantly, the homeowner now benefits from Building Regulations certification and a 25-year guarantee covering the complete roofing installation.
